Goals and Dreams

It took me a long time to finally sit down and make the decision to start something like this, a blog. I still kind of cringe at the term. You hear about so many blogs, successful or not, that it starts to seem like the ‘blogosphere’ is at a saturation point. Then I remember that there’s really no saturation point on good information. So that’s what I’m going to try to do: provide good, useful information.

Why am I writing?

The past five years (plus) have been an increadible learning process for me. I went from full time engineer in Colorado to minuscule ‘business owner’ living in a car in Los Angeles and finally to living and working comfortably at home on my small but consistent business in the Bay Area.

I, like many others, had grand notions about how starting a business was going to go, how I was going to defy the odds, but the truth is that I learned many harsh lessons. Some are learned the easy way, through advice, recommendations and information, etc. and others are learned the hard way – by making decisions, things going wrong and you have to get yourself back up. I don’t think there is any way to avoid any hard-learned lessons in starting a business for the first, or even the second or third time. But what you can do is seek the advice of others who have learned those lessons first hand. That is my intent: to help prevent or ease the sting of even some of those difficult lessons in any of these topics. I was grateful for having my own sources of information and guidance. And while I am no means a professional business consultant, marketer or life coach, I can speak from experience. And if that helps even just one person, I think that’s enough.

What will I write about?

My expertise in the context of this blog is in finding a way to achieve my goals and move steadily toward dreams: to start a small business, work from ‘home’, travel and make my own schedule while providing a service that feels as though I’m making a direct impact. These are all distinct and separate goals, so thankfully you can connect with any combination of them. Maybe you want to work from your house but keep a job so you don’t need to run a business. Maybe you want to start a business and work from home but not live on the road as a digital nomad. That’s OK! It’s not a requirement that you live the same lifestyle or have all the same goals as me to find my content useful or helpful. It’s about goals and dreams, that is, setting achievable goals that move you toward your dreams so that eventually they are one and the same. That’s where I want to help, I’ve spent more than five years working toward what seemed like an unrealistic dream, and now it’s right in front of me as a reality. I’d love to help anyone with similar dreams.

Goals and Dreams

I want this to be a place of useful information, discussion and community. I will be using social media to ask questions about new topics, things I’m not sure about, and comments on current topics. I’m happy to write on something I only know a little about if nothing else for the motivation to know it better and share the useful bits. I’m happy to collaborate, share other lessons anyone else in the community has learned and so forth. So please don’t hesitate to reach out, tell me what you’d like to see, what you liked or didn’t. This whole endeavor won’t last long without knowing if it’s doing someone some good, engaging on the topics or creating the community I intend it too. My goal is to evolve as I and my audience and my business evolves. So, if any of the topics that I listed will help you move toward your dreams, then I have a purpose here.

Welcome

So with that I welcome you and also thank you. For taking a chance, whether you know me personally or not, on another new blog. But hopefully one you will find useful, engaging and most importantly – helpful to your goals and dreams.

Sincerely,
Risa
